At writing for a public.
Its been only six years since I stopped pouring my heart out to an online window screen measuring 6 inches by 4 inches. Hardly anyone read my blog as I recounted tales with boyfriends, ex-boyfriends, jobs, and life in London. This time I am conscious that this may be my only communication with a world that I will leave behind, if only for 12 months. They say you lose touch with old friends, give up on relationships and enter a life that removes you from the rest of the (MBA) community in the world. Not sure I want to believe that infact I am pretty determined to be one in a handful of students who makes their relationship last!
Right so as a ‘pre-frosher’ as the fantastic MBAMRS described in her blog – what is P0 (P zero being the term before the year begins) all about?
Its taken me a while to move on from the first telephone call I received on 7th October. Infact its taken me a while to move on from the first email I received telling me I had been pre-selected. And as my mum rightly pointed out then, ”great news and very proud of you but now is when your troubles begin”! Loans, Fees, Visas, Houses, Cats, Children, Job – only a few things on my to-do list. Infact these are only sub-headings on my to do list, with sub-divisions and further sub-divisions if required. Like Cat – Rabies Jab – Call vet is one mini algorithm.
As an R3 (Round 3) admit, 2 months is hardly any time to prepare for a new life to replace the old. Both sets of bank managers are keen to continue their little tango across continents with each one asking for more paperwork as they inch forward to approval. I managed to scrape the bottom to find the EUR 5,000 for my non-refundable deposit that secures my place at Insead. Monsieur Henri is keen to receive his deposit on the house and I’ve had to temporarily forgo plans of making new friends earlier than the others at the Business Foundations Program as I try and stretch my finances. My Fontainebleau kitchen list grows as I decide which dals and masalas I should carry back from India, in protected and sealed packets for my frugal existence in Montigny.
Vow to self: I am not going to turn into a whinging freak who can only talk about how little money I am going to have next year. Though its tough giving up a monthly salary!

Hello there,
Congratulations on getting into Insead!
I’m currently applying for r3 for Jan 2011 and have been looking around for the right person to ask my questions. and here you are!
Regd the application process, do R3 applicants face any disadvantages?
Regd finding housing in Fonty and S’pore and also bank loans, what’s your take? Was it difficult to get a loan? Did you apply for any of the available R3 scholarships? Do they really exist or are they a myth?
and – Do you genuinely see more value in the Jan intake as opposed to a July intake? Did your internship help/ add value?
Hoping you can shed light on my many dilemmas!
